If you’ve never been to Deetjen’s just know if you’re looking for it you may pass it. The buildingm according to Deetjen’s History, was built from reclaimed wood found on Monterey’s Cannery Row and has been around since early 30’s. It is said that Helmuth Deetjen Norwegian architecture style is what influenced the rest of Big Sur’s buildings.
BIG SUR ELOPEMENT PHOTOGRAPHER
Deep into Big Sur and tucked into Castro Canyon, (the waterfall found on the property is called Castro Canyon Waterfall and the bridge that Highway 1 goes over is the Castro Canyon Bridge, for all your geography nerds out there), right where the highway turns, you’ll find as assortment of cabins and lo and behold is Deetjen’s.
Outdoor enthusiasts will absolutely love this Inn because it’s surrounded by redwoods and the cabins definitely have an old world feel to them on the interior.
Anyways, on to the photos!…
